The Claustrophobia-Fear Of Closed Spaces page covers the causes, signs, symptoms and treatment, along with self help steps you can take to fight this disease.

Claustrophobia-Fear Of Closed Spaces

Claustrophobia Signs And Symptoms:

This specific phobia is identified by extreme anxiety or panic when in closed spaces, like elevators, cars, airplanes, etc.  Claustrophobia symptoms can include always needing to know where the exit is, always wanting to be by the door even in a large room, always wanting to take the stairs out of fear of the elevator.  The problem with claustrophobia, as with all anxiety disorders, if left untreated, it generally worsens to the point of becoming a disability.  Here are some of the most popular recent books on claustrophobia.

Claustrophobia Causes:

It's commonly believed that most cases of claustrophobia generated from some childhood trauma in a closed in space (closet, etc.) or having the feelings of being closed in (bathtub, pool, etc.).

Claustrophobia Treatment:

While there are medications to lessen anxiety, claustrophobia treatment should include therapy to learn how to manage the condition naturally.  This involves exposure to closed in spaces in controlled settings until you've learned to process the discomfort without severe anxiety or panic.

Claustrophobia Self Help:

As with all fears, if your claustrophobia has not progressed to a disabling condition, you can learn to manage it yourself, by gradually increasing your exposure to closed spaces as you become more comfortable with them.  During these exercises, practice relaxation techniques, breathing control and positive self-talk.

Total Healing:

Mental Health conditions can be frustrating and painful.  We both know there are no guaranteed cures or quick fixes, whether medicine, nutrition, herbs or anything else.  Many illnesses are "incurable" from the medical standpoint.  Complete healing is possible...including mind, body and spirit...from God.  If you want God's help with this or any problem, go to Help From God.
